Transatlantic nations and role of NATO topic of BYU lecture Jan. 19

Jeffrey M. Hovenier, deputy director of NATO Policy, European Security and Political Affairs with the U.S. Department of State, will present, "Transatlantic Relations and the Role of NATO" at a Global Focus Series lecture Wednesday, Jan. 19 at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building at Brigham Young University.

Hovenier helped reopen the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade following the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Yugoslavia. He later headed a temporary embassy office in Southern Serbia to manage the ethnic Albanian insurgency in the Presevo Valley.

Hovenier received a bachelor's degree from BYU and a master's degree from Georgetown University.
