"Tom and Bessie Kane and the Mormons" continues Lee Library series Feb. 11

Edward A. Geary will present “Tom and Bessie Kane and the Mormons” Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 3 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at Brigham Young University.

Geary’s presentation is part of the Thomas L. Kane Exhibition Lecture Series that accompanies the Kane exhibit on display in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections through June 2009. He will discuss the relationship of Thomas Kane, an influential non-Mormon who supported the Saints during the 19th century, and his wife with the Mormons.

Geary taught English at BYU from 1968 to 2006, where he served as editor of BYU Studies, associate dean of the College of Humanities and English Department chair. His publications include “Goodbye to Poplarhaven: Reflections of a Utah Boyhood” and “The Proper Edge of the Sky: The High Plateau Country of Utah.”

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from BYU and his doctorate in English literature from Stanford University.
