Timpanogos Storytelling Conference at BYU Feb. 5-6

Brigham Young University’s Department of Theatre and Media Arts will combine with the City of Orem and BYU’s Division of Continuing Education to present the fourth annual Timpanogos Storytelling Conference Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Full conference tuition is $135 or $165 with college credit and includes lunch on both days. Single day tuition is $80 or $110 with college credit and includes lunch on that day. To register, call BYU Conferences and Workshops at (801) 422-2568 or visit www.timpfest.org.

The conference will not only teach participants how to tell stories but present prominent storytellers. Among the 12 presenters for this year’s conference will be Donald Davis, MaryGay Ducey, Jackson Gillman and Doug Lipman, who will be featured in performances both evenings. They are some of the United States’ best and leading storytellers and coaches. For ticket prices and other information on the performances, visit www.timpfest.org or call the Orem Public Library at (801) 229-7436.

“We are all storytellers,” said Emilee Barrett of BYU’s Conferences and Workshops. “We think in stories and use stories to analyze and share life events. But do we do it well? Stories can capture and communicate more than just the facts. Stories are what make the facts understandable and memorable. If you use stories as a public speaker, a parent, a librarian, a school or Sunday School teacher, a personal or family history writer, an author or in any other venue, this storytelling conference is for you.”

BYU employees and their spouses may be eligible for BYU tuition benefits for the conference; contact Emilee Barrett at (801) 422-2568 for details.

Others interested in attending should call Janet Lowe of the Orem Public Library at (801) 229-7436.
