Timothy Lynn Elliott appointed International Study Programs director

Timothy Lynn Elliott has been appointed the new International Study Programs director and assistant director of the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Brigham Young University.

"We are pleased to have Lynn join us at the Kennedy Center," says Jeff Ringer, Kennedy Center director. "His experiences abroad and professionally will be a great asset to the center."

From 1992 to 2001, Elliott was a coordinator for performance tours with BYU Performing Arts Management, where he arranged tours for BYU performing groups in more than 40 countries

Elliott left BYU in 2001 for a position at Utah Valley State College as the International Center's associate director and study abroad director.

"I'm pleased to be associated with this program. BYU has one of the largest and most innovative university programs for sending students abroad, whether in traditional study abroad or on internships, field studies or volunteer programs," says Elliott. "The reason for this, I believe, is that BYU's faculty is more globally oriented than just about any university in the nation or the world."

Elliott's first trip overseas was with the BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble on their tour to Japan, Korea and the Philippines. By the time he left BYU with his bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in international relations, Elliott had toured 20 countries and had decided to pursue a career in international education.

As a doctoral candidate in foreign affairs at the University of Virginia, he specialized in East European politics and served as assistant director for a study abroad program in Poland.

"It is a thrill for me to come back to the Kennedy Center, where I studied as a graduate student almost 20 years ago," he adds. "I believed strongly in the mission of the center then and this belief has only grown over time."

Elliott will assume his new role Monday, June 7 and may be reached at 204B HRCB, (801) 422-6244, or at elliottl@byu.edu.
