Thomas W. Sederberg to give Distinguished Faculty Lecture May 18

Thomas W. Sederberg of Brigham Young University’s Computer Science Department and this year’s Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer will be the forum speaker Tuesday, May 18, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The forum is titled “Computer Graphics and Mentoring.”

The forum will be broadcast live on all BYU Broadcasting channels including BYU TV, KBYU-TV and BYU Radio. The forum will also be archived online at byub.org.

The Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is BYU’s top faculty honor and is announced each year during the Annual University Conference in August.

Sederberg started teaching at BYU in 1983 as an instructor of civil engineering. He became a professor of computer science in 1997. Sederberg is a graduate of BYU, having received his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in civil engineering. He also received his master’s in civil engineering and wrote his thesis on computer graphics. He received his Ph.D. in 1983 from Purdue University.

He conducts research at BYU in computer-aided geometric design, computer graphics, hardware for surface rendering, image morphing and handwriting recognition.
