Terrorism expert to speak at BYU's Kennedy Center June 9

Terrorism and intelligence analyst Ryan Chavez will address the Brigham Young University campus community concerning "Homeland Security in an Age of Transnational Terrorism" on Wednesday, June 9, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Chavez, who is a homeland security analyst for the U.S. government, will not be speaking in an official capacity, and this Global Focus Series lecture will not be archived online.

He has researched terrorism, intelligence, and military innovation, and recently presented and published papers on terrorism related themes.

As an analyst Chavez has authored homeland security products that have reached all levels of government.

He was previously an analyst at the Department of Defense, and he was among the first U.S. government employees assigned to the Department of Homeland Security as a detailee shortly after the department's inception.

Chavez began his career in 2001 as an analyst with BAI, Inc., a Washington-area firm specializing in supporting Department of Defense and U.S. government clients in their efforts to implement and comply with international arms control treaties.

He received a B.A. in international politics from BYU in 2000, and he is currently an M.A. candidate in security studies at Georgetown University, where he will graduate in December 2004.
