"Taking North Korea Seriously" to be BYU lecture topic Feb. 16

Kirk W. Larsen, associate professor of history at Brigham Young University, will be speaking about “Taking North Korea Seriously” at an International Studies Lecture Wednesday, Feb. 16, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Larsen previously taught at the University of Texas and the George Washington University. At GWU he served as director of the international affairs program and the Sigur Center for Asian Studies.

His publications include “Tradition, Treaties and Trade: Qing Imperialism and Chosôn Korea, 1850-1910,” and he has published, presented and commented on a variety of contemporary issues including North Korea, nationalism and elections in South Korea, and Sino-Korean relations. He has appeared on ABC, MSNBC, VOA, the Canadian Broadcast System and Al-Jazeera.

Larsen received a doctorate in history from Harvard University.
