Synthesis big band ensemble plans Nov. 28 concert at BYU

The School of Music at Brigham Young University will present Synthesis, BYU’s popular big band jazz ensemble under the direction of Ray Smith, in concert on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Admission will be $10, or $7 with a BYU or student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-4322 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The showcase will feature “Jitterbug Waltz,” “Bugle Call Rag” and a number of Christmas favorites played in swinging big band style.

Synthesis combines the sounds of the swing, blues, jazz, Latin and fusion styles to create a unique sound all its own. The student performers have competed in jazz festivals throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
