Symphonic Band to present "David" Feb. 24

The Symphonic Band at Brigham Young University, conducted by Kirt Saville, will be performing Stephen Melillo's "David" on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

This epic work depicts the story of David, his faith and devotion, and his inspired battle with Goliath. The Symphonic Band features approximately 85 student musicians performing full concert band instrumentations.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased through the Fine Arts Ticket Office (801) 422-4322, or online at BYUArts.com/tickets.

The program will also include works by Claude Debussy, Percy Grainger, Scott Boerma and Clifton Williams. Soprano soloist Diane Reich will also be featured.

Diane Reich is a professor of voice at BYU and teaches vocal and opera literature. She previously served as the Director of Opera at Central Washington University. She earned doctoral and master’s degrees from Indiana University.

Using a network of small, low-cost radars, engineering professor Cammy Peterson and her colleagues have built an air traffic control system for drones that can effectively and accurately track anything in an identified low-altitude airspace.
