Students welcome at annual BYU Teacher Fair March 9

The fourth annual Brigham Young University Teacher Fair, scheduled for Friday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom, is shaping up to be the largest in the history of the event.

“One hundred and thirty employers signed up before registration closes on Feb. 23, making this the biggest fair we’ve ever sponsored in terms of school districts represented,” said Lisa Christensen, education placement manager. “This is the first time we’ve ever ‘sold out.’”

School districts can still register for the fair, but will only get space if others cancel, Christensen added.

Selected school districts will present information sessions on Thursday, March 8. Schedules for the sessions will be posted on educationplacement.byu.edu.

All education students are encouraged to attend the fair, where 20 states from around the country will be represented by school recruiters. Students in the beginning of the program as well as graduating seniors can benefit from meeting face-to-face with future employers.

Christensen encouraged students to come prepared to speak with specific schools and treat the fair as a regular interview opportunity.

“Do extensive research on prospective schools and districts, prepare [your] best resumes and be dressed to interview,” she said. “First impressions are vital, and employers will judge candidates accordingly.”
