Soprano Celena Shafer to present guest recital at BYU Nov. 28

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will host a special guest performance by soprano Celena Shafer on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission to the performance will be free and the public is welcome to attend. In addition, Shafer will present a free master class prior to the performance at 5 p.m., also in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The program will include “Let The Bright Seraphim” from “Semele” by George Frideric Handel, “Lasciatemi Morire” by Claudio Monteverdi, “Che Fiero Costume” by Giovanni Legrenzi, “Pur Dicesti” by Antonio Lotti, “Quella Fiamma” by Francesco Conti, “Ihr Habt Nun Traurigkeit” by Johannes Brahms and “O War Ich Schon Mit Dir Vereint” by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Shafer will also perform “Io son quel gelsomino,” “Domine Deus” and “Altra Aria del Vagante” by Antonio Vivaldi; “D’une Abbaye,” “Chanson D’Amour” and “Notre Amour” by Gabriel Faure; and “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Blah Blah Blah” and “By Strauss” by George and Ira Gershwin.

Shafer has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Los Angeles Opera, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Welsh National Opera and the MormonTabernacle Choir. In 2002, she received the prestigious ARIA (Award Recognizing Individual Artistry).
