Society of Illustrators chooses BYU student work for awards, exhibition

Three Brigham Young University students received honors in the Society of Illustrators 2007 Student Scholarship Competition and Exhibition.

Out of more than 4,000 submissions from 61 schools, 119 works were chosen. Of those entries, fewer than 30 received awards.

Bryan Beus, a student who worked with BYU instructor Ryan Woodward, won the Kirchoff/Wohlberg Award, worth $2,000; Daniel Hughes, who worked with instructor Brad Holland, won a $1,500 award in memory of Barnett Plotkin; and Rusty Gregory won a spot in the student exhibition as well.

The BYU students’ works will be part of an exhibition in the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators from Wednesday, May 2, through Friday, May 18, and the awards presentation will be on Friday, May 4. The society will create a catalogue of the works included in the exhibition.

For more information, contact Bethanne Anderson at (801) 422-5291 or Kim Sall, publicity and awards coordinator, at (212) 838-2560 or by e-mail at kim@societyillustrators.org.
