Daniel K Judd, former counselor in the Sunday School general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the keynote speaker at Brigham Young University’s 39th annual Sidney B. Sperry Symposium on the Scriptures, titled "The Sermon on the Mount in Latter-day Scripture," Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30.

Admission is free, and no registration is required. For a complete schedule of events, visit  religion.byu.edu/events.php

Judd, a professor of ancient scripture at BYU, will give his address, titled “'Resist Not Evil’: The Supreme Test of Christian Discipleship,” at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium.

Following Judd’s presentation, lectures will continue in the JSB Auditorium and the Thomas L. Martin Building at 7:30 p.m., with five concurrent sessions held each hour until 9:30 p.m.

Hourly presentations will continue Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon, when John W. Welch, founder of FARMS and a professor at BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, will give the closing address, “Echoes from the Sermon on the Mount.”

The Sperry Symposium is a yearly conference highlighting scriptural topics that focus on strengthening individuals’ testimonies and personal gospel knowledge. Contributors to the symposium include faculty from BYU and BYU-Hawaii and other Church scholars. This year’s symposium is designed to be an aid to the 2011 Gospel Doctrine curriculum for the Church.
