Senior advisor for U.S. missile defense gives BYU lecture Jan. 21

A senior advisor for U.S. missile defense policy will speak at the International Forum Series Wednesday, Jan. 21, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus.

Kerry M. Kartchner of the Bureau of Arms Control with the U.S. Department of State will give a lecture titled "Missile Defense and the Bush Administration's Response to Weapons of Mass Destruction."

Kartchner has more than 20 years of experience focusing on nuclear weapons policy and arms control in the field of national security affairs. He has served as the U.S. State Department senior representative to the Standing Consultative Commission for the ABM Treaty in Geneva, and in the Office of Strategic and Theater Missile Defense in the Bureau of Arms Control.

Recently, Kartchner headed the department's public diplomacy efforts related to the Bush administration's missile defense policy.

He received a bachelor's degree in international relations from BYU and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Southern California.
