Senator Joseph Lieberman to speak at BYU forum Oct. 25

Sen. Joseph Lieberman will speak at a Brigham Young University forum Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. A question-and-answer session will immediately follow the forum.

The title of his address will be "Faith and the Public Square," related to his recently published book, “The Gift of Rest: Rediscovering the Beauty of the Sabbath.”

The forum will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byub.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byub.org/BYUforum or speeches.byu.edu.

Prior to the forum, the university will host a special reception in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitor’s Center from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. where the Senator will meet and greet students and the community. He will also be able to sign copies of his book, which may be purchased prior to the event. He will not be available following the forum.

A former Democratic vice-presidential candidate, Sen. Lieberman was born in Stamford, Conn., and received his bachelor’s and law degrees from Yale. He was elected to the Connecticut State Senate in 1970 and served there for 10 years, including the last six as majority leader. In 1980, he returned to private legal practice for two years, and from 1983 through 1988, he was Connecticut's 21st Attorney General. In 1988, he was elected to the United States Senate.

He lives in Stamford and Washington, D.C. with his wife Hadassah, the daughter of Holocaust survivors who has spent her career working on healthcare issues.
