School of Music hosts free concerts Nov. 14-15

The Brigham Young University School of Music will present two free concerts during the week of Nov. 13.

  • Cougar Marching Band, Tuesday, Nov. 14: Don Peterson will conduct the Cougar Marching Band at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The audience will recognize American favorites such as “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Yankee Doodle Boy” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.” The band will also play popular culture songs, including “Great Balls of Fire,” “Celebration” and “Hawaii Five-O.” The color guard will join the group for selected songs.

  • Group for New Music, Wednesday, Nov. 15: The BYU avant-garde ensemble Group for New Music will present assorted works at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The program will include “Seasons” by Joshua K. Harris, “Between Moons” by Jeff Broadbent, “At Your Fingertips” by David Snedegar and “Change for the Better” by Stephen Anderson.

    Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

    For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
