School of Family Life announces changes in leadership, organization

Dean David B. Magleby of Brigham Young University's College of Family, Home and Social Sciences has appointed Richard Miller, a professor of marriage, family and human development, as the director of the School of Family Life effective Aug. 1.

In addition, Randal Day, also a professor of marriage, family and human development, and Shirley Klein, a professor of home and family living, have been named as associate directors. Day will oversee the Family Studies Center and outreach programs, with Klein working as associate director of undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

James Harper, who served as director for eight years, is now on developmental leave and is scheduled to return to the School of Family Life faculty in 2007. Russell Crane, David Dollahite and Susanne Olsen were also released from their positions as associate directors.

"The faculty and staff in the School of Family Life are grateful to James Harper for his many years of leadership in the school," said Magleby.

In addition to the administrative changes, the School of Family Life has also divided Marriage Family and Human Development into two separate programs, Family Studies and Human Development. The Home and Family Living and Marriage Family Therapy programs remain the same.
