Ruth Christensen featured in vocal recital Jan. 17

Ruth Christensen, Brigham Young University faculty artist mezzo-soprano, will perform "Voices of Praise: The Bible in Song" with guest artist Todd Queen, tenor, and James Margetts, pianist, Friday (Jan. 17) at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission to this recital is free.

The program will feature selections of sacred songs based on biblical texts, including Benjamin Britten's "Abraham and Isaac," a 17-minute mezzo-soprano/tenor duet depicting the story of Abraham and Isaac.

Other featured pieces will be "The Blessed Virgin's Expostulation" by Henry Purcell, a selection from "Biblical Songs" by Antonin Dvorak, Ned Rorem's "Cycle of Holy Songs" and the "Magnificat in D" by Johann Sebastian Bach.
