Richard Heaps honored by Utah Psychological Association

Brigham Young University faculty member Richard Heaps has been awarded the Utah Psychological Association’s Distinguished Service Award.

Heaps received the honor for his many years of service to the Utah Psychological Association and to the field of psychology in general.

He has served the Utah Psychological Association as an officer since 1994, as an executive board member since 1999 and as president from 2002-2003.

He also served as the Western United States regional representative of the Disaster Response Network Committee of the American Psychological Association from 2001 to 2007, where he represented 13 states in formulating disaster treatment plans.

He has personally been involved in responding to a number of disasters in the past 20 years, including Hurricane Katrina and the World Trade Center.

Heaps has been a faculty member at BYU for 37 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from BYU, and both his master’s degree and doctorate in psychology from the University of Utah.
