R. J. Snow to present BYU devotional address Sept. 6

R. J. Snow, professor of political science at Brigham Young University, will speak Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a campus devotional.

Live broadcasts are available on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU-Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and byubroadcasting.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. The title of the devotional, "The ends of the earth shall inquire after thy name," quotes a scripture in Doctrine & Covenants 122. The devotional addresses the origins and growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the African continent.

Snow completed a bachelor's and a master's degree in history at the University of Utah, followed by a master's degree and a doctorate in political science at Northwestern University. He also did postdoctoral study at the University of Oregon and at Harvard.

After 10 years as the vice president for Student and University Relations and director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah, Snow served as the president of the Johannesburg South Africa Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ and as both Student Life and Advancement vice president at BYU. He was also the director of the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies.

Since his return to the BYU Provo campus, he has taught African politics, American government and public policy.
