“The Queen of Versailles” filmmaker at BYU for screening Feb. 5

Awarded 2012 Sundance Film Festival Directing Award

Presented by the Brigham Young University Theatre and Media Arts Department and sponsored by Canon, award-winning documentary filmmaker Lauren Greenfield will visit BYU to screen her film “The Queen of Versailles” Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Varsity Theatre.

Greenfield will be available afterwards for a question-and-answer session. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

“The Queen of Versailles,” rated PG, follows a billionaire couple as they begin construction on a mansion inspired by the palace at Versailles outside of Paris. During the next two years, their empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis. The end result is a portrait of a couple who dared to dream big but lose, still maintaining their unique brand of humility.

Greenfield is an American artist, documentary photographer and documentary filmmaker. She was awarded the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Directing Award for “The Queen of Versailles.” She has received many awards in photography and film including PHOTO magazine’s “The 25 Most Important Photographers Now” and the third spot in the “100 Most Important People in Photography” in American Photo Magazine.
