Proposals sought for 2010 Sperry Symposium on the Scriptures at BYU

Brigham Young University Religious Education is seeking proposals for the 39th annual Sydney B. Sperry Symposium on the Scriptures scheduled for October 2010.

Proposed research is expected to make an original contribution to understanding the Sermon on the Mount in the scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The one-page proposals should be written in essay form with four paragraphs detailing the following elements: the central question the research aims to answer; a preliminary thesis; a brief bibliography; and a brief statement of the writer’s experience or training.

Please include the following in the heading of the proposal: name, occupation, address, phone number, e-mail address and a working title. Proposals must be submitted electronically as an attached Word, WordPerfect or PDF document to patty_smith@byu.edu by April 27.

Submitters will be notified of their proposal’s status by June 1, after which final drafts ranging from 15-25 pages will be due Oct. 5.

BYU landscaping students dig their way to 10th national championship

BYU’s landscaping team is the best in the field, literally. While most national championships are won on the court or the gridiron, this one was claimed with pruned shrubs, expertly placed pavers, and top-tier irrigation systems.
