Professor to discuss partition in India and Thailand Dec. 2 at BYU

Shane Strate, visiting professor of history at Brigham Young University, will present “The Trauma of Lost Territory: Discourses of Partition in India and Thailand” at a David M. Kennedy Center lecture Wednesday, Dec. 2, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Strate joined the BYU faculty this fall as part of the visiting faculty program. His research interests include modern imperialism, nationalism, identity and authoritarianism. In 2006, he spent a year in Thailand for research as a Fulbright Hays Fellowship Dissertation Research Abroad recipient.

His article, “An Uncivil State of Affairs: Fascism and Anti-Catholicism in Thailand, 1940-1944,” was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Southeast Asian Studies.
