Power upgrade will close most of BYU's Lee Library during Christmas break

The Harold B. Lee Library will undergo a power system upgrade during Christmas break, shutting off all power to the majority of the building from Friday, Dec. 21, through Saturday, Jan. 5.

For safety reasons, there will be no access to the materials, offices or study rooms in the powerless parts of the building for the two-week duration of the project. The Center for Teaching and Learning and the Intellectual Properties Department are among the areas to be completely closed.

The northern portions of the library’s first two floors will be open except on Saturday, Dec. 22, through Tuesday, Dec. 25, and Saturday, Dec. 30, through Tuesday, Jan. 1. This includes the Family History Library, Periodicals Department, portions of the Social Science Department, and the L. Tom Perry Special Collections Library. The library will make every effort to provide services in these portions of the building.

Faculty, students and campus visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and check out any materials they will require during Christmas break before the power outage begins. Librarians and staff are available to help patrons prepare.

Patrons should also be aware that access to the library’s databases, digital collections and the Web site will also be affected by this work.
