Popular Songwriters Showcase at BYU March 25

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the Songwriters Showcase Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The showcase will feature works by songwriting students. Students are selected competitively to participate in the event, and their music represents all pop-related styles.

"Students are free to choose any style of music as long as it is charted by the music industry," said Ron Simpson. "And people love coming to this concert because it's almost a party atmosphere. It has the enthusiasm of a pop-flavored event. There is a level of enthusiasm and suspense for the writers getting to do something of this magnitude."

Simpson said students with a wide variety of songwriting experience will participate, with some writing for the first time and others who may already have works available in stores.

"The songs are great because they'll be fresh and original," he said. "They're songs right out of the oven."

For more information about the Songwriters Showcase, contact Ron Simpson at (801) 422-6395.
