Popular Octubafest returns to BYU Oct. 20-22

Brigham Young University’s School of Music presents its annual Octubafest featuring a variety of artists and performances Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 20-22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. All performances are free.

Thursday’s concert will feature a joint recital by guest artist John Mueller on euphonium and BYU faculty tubist Steve Call. Mueller is associate professor of trombone and euphonium at The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music of the University of Memphis. He is also a trombonist with the Memphis Brass Quintet and The Birth of the Cool faculty jazz ensemble.

On Friday night, Utah Premiere Brass will perform with Mueller and Call and will be conducted by BYU professor Kirt Saville. Utah Premiere Brass is the only known British brass band in the state. They have 30 professional brass musicians who come from all areas of Utah and beyond.

Octubafest will conclude on Saturday with the Grand Octubafest Concert featuring the tuba-euphonium ensembles from BYU and BYU-Idaho as well as the BYU Honors Tuba-Euphonium Quartet.

For more information, contact Steve Call at stevecall@byu.edu or (801) 422-6116.
