Percussion Ensemble and Panoramic Steel in concert March 28

The Brigham Young University School of Music will present the Percussion Ensemble and Panoramic Steel in concert on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Tickets are $10 for general admission or $7 with a BYU or student ID and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, at performances.byu.edu or by calling (801) 422-4322.

The Percussion Ensemble performs an array of pieces for virtually every percussion instrument imaginable, from avant-garde to popular classics to ethnic and world music. In this concert, the group will perform Dave Hollinden’s “Release” and Chris Tanner’s “Burnin’.”

Using standard Trinidadian instruments crafted from 55 gallon barrels, BYU’s steel drum ensemble Panoramic Steel will perform Aldwyn “Lord Kitchener” Roberts’ piece, “Mystery Band.”

The concert will also feature guest artists Corey Christiansen, electric guitar, and Hillary Kimball, flute. Christiansen, who has performed at many internationally notable festivals and venues, will perform Andy Narell’s “Baby Steps.”

Kimball has been a flute instructor at BYU, Boston’s Walnut Hill School, the American School of Music and the Pittsburgh City Music Center at Duquesne. She will open the concert with Philip Parker’s “When Fireflies Danced.”
