Patti Freeman to discuss "Intentional Recreation" at BYU forum July 17

Patti Freeman, chair of the Department of Recreation Management and Youth Leadership in the Marriot School at Brigham Young University, will give an address titled “Intentional Recreation and Things That Matter Most” at a forum Tuesday, July 17, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

It will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYUtv, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and at byutv.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. For rebroadcast and reprint information, visit byutv.org or speeches.byu.edu.

Freeman earned her bachelor’s degree in recreation management and youth leadership from BYU before going on to earn her master’s degree in recreation and parks administration from Western Illinois University and a doctoral degree in human performance from Indiana University.

Before coming to BYU in 1999, Freeman worked as an associate professor at the University of Utah and Murray State University and as a visiting lecturer and associate instructor at Indiana University.

During her time at BYU she has been a graduate coordinator in the Youth and Family Recreation master’s program, developed and implemented a bi-annual semester abroad program in New Zealand for students majoring in outdoor recreation, and developed various curricula for classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Freeman has served as department chair since 2006.
