Ocotillo Winds trio to present free performance at BYU Nov. 10

Ocotillo Winds, a musical trio from the desert Southwest, will perform at Brigham Young University’s Madsen Recital Hall on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The trio is composed of Martin Schuring on oboe, Robert Spring on clarinet and Albie Micklich on bassoon. Their program will feature a series of compositions by European composers.

Schuring has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Florida Orchestra and the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as a professor of oboe at the Londrina Music Festival in Brazil and has published articles in scholarly journals.

Spring has performed as a recitalist or soloist with symphony orchestras and wind bands in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and South America and has played on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today.” Spring was also president of the International Clarinet Association from 1998 to 2000.

An associate professor of bassoon at Arizona State University, Micklich has also taught at Michigan State University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Missouri-Columbia, among others. He has performed all over the United States and in Japan, Australia, Canada and Brazil. Micklich was a winner of Juilliard’s concerto competition and performed in Avery Fisher Hall.
