Norwegian soprano to give guest recital at BYU Sept. 24

Soprano Veslemøy Fluge Berg will present a Brigham Young University guest artist recital Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-4322 or by visiting byuarts.com.

A native of Bergen, Norway, Berg will perform her interpretations of fellow countryman Edvard Grieg’s classic pieces.

Accompanied by Audun Kayser on the piano, Berg will perform Grieg’s “Blåbærli” (Blueberry slope), “To brune øyne” (Two brown eyes), “Jeg elsker deg” (I love but thee), “Ein Traum” (A dream) and “Solveigs sang.”

She will also perform a Norwegian folk tune, “Eg veit i himmelrik” (In heaven), as well as “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “I Could Have Danced All Night” by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner from the musical “My Fair Lady.”

Berg’s performance will also feature “Oh Divine Redeemer” by Charles Gounod and “Norge mitt Norge” (Norway, my Norway) by Alfred Paulsen.

She has performed for the King and Queen of Norway, on several stages in Europe and in many music festivals in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. With the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, she starred in the stage performance of Mozart’s “Der Schauspieldirektor,” and she played Mimi in the production of Puccini’s opera “La Boheme.”
