Norwegian political leader to present BYU lectures Sept. 20

Dagfinn Høybråten, a member of the Norwegian Parliament and national leader of the Christian Democrat Party, will present Brigham Young University’s Annual Norwegian Distinguished Person lecture to political science and international relations students Wednesday, Sept. 20, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building

He will present a second lecture to health science students at 3 p.m. in 267 Stephen L. Richards Building. All are welcome to attend.

Høybråten is well known in Europe for his efforts regarding Norwegian smoking laws, which are now stricter than Utah’s, prohibiting smoking in all indoor public places. Ireland and California have followed suit, with Sweden soon to be added to the list.

More than 16 years ago, an anonymous donor provided BYU with funding to bring two guest lecturers to campus each year, one from Norway and one from Denmark.

The lecture is part of the Scandinavian Scholarship Program, which provides BYU scholarship opportunities for one student each from Norway and Denmark every year. For more information, contact Erlend Peterson at (801) 422-1802.
