New managing director of BYU Alumni and External Relations

Brigham Young University announced Steven Hafen as the new managing director of Alumni and External Relations. He replaces McKay Christensen, who is returning to Melaleuca, Inc. after three years of outstanding service. Hafen began his duties on October 24.

"Steve is well qualified for this position as he has extensive management and administrative experience. He has experience in marketing, strategic planning and general operations, and has a proven record of leading organizations" said BYU Advancement Vice President Matthew O. Richardson. "Steve is energetic, comes very well-recommended, and is known for engaging effective organizational teams. He is devoted to the mission of Brigham Young University and, with his skill and demeanor, he will make a significant contribution to BYU."

In this role, Hafen oversees the university's Alumni Relations, External Relations, Publications and Graphics, Special Events, University Relations, Licensing and Trademark departments.

Prior to BYU, Hafen served as a senior business executive across multiple companies, including President and CEO of Devcon Security Holdings. He has also been an investor, partner and board member of several start-up companies.

Hafen has taught for several years as an adjunct professor in the BYU Marriott School of Business. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and an MBA, both from BYU.
