New exhibit at Education in Zion gallery celebrating service opens Feb. 12

The Education in Zion Gallery at Brigham Young University will hold a grand opening for its new exhibition, “Do Good Better,” in the Joseph Fielding Smith Building Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.

Created by the Ballard Center for Economic Self-Reliance, “Do Good Better” aims to teach students how to use their unique skills and talents to better serve others.

Refreshments will be served at the grand opening. Preregister online for a chance to win TEDxBYU tickets.

The exhibition will offer historical background on the Ballard Center and its namesake, Melvin J. Ballard. A social innovator, Ballard implemented The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ welfare system during the Great Depression, helping thousands to pull themselves out of poverty while maintaining their dignity. The exhibition will also highlight an interactive feature that teaches how to recognize high-impact organizations and demonstrate the effect that well-planned service and social innovation can have on the world.

“The exhibit teaches students how they can use their unique skillset to ‘Do Good Better’,” says Debbie Adams, a curatorial research assistant for the exhibit. “It features BYU students from a variety of majors and how they are making an impact on the world.”

The Education in Zion gallery is located in room 3183 JFSB. For more information, visit educationinzion.byu.edu or contact Roger Layton at (801) 422-6687 or roger_layton@byu.edu.
