New art installation at BYU's "Education in Zion" gallery

The “Education in Zion” gallery at the Joseph F. Smith Building on the Brigham Young University campus will be opening a new exhibit Thursday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m.

The new art exhibit, titled “Inheritance,” is comprised of art created by students of BYU visual arts faculty member Sunny Belliston Taylor. It will open with a reception on the lowest level of the gallery. The exhibit will run through May 29.

“These works of art seek to tell the stories of those in our lives who have, through both great sacrifice and simple daily choices, passed on legacies of faith, opportunity and education,” said Taylor. “The collection functions as an artistic discourse on the interpretation of an education experience centered in faith, sacrifice and opportunity.”

This exhibit will allow visitors to observe and add to some artwork. “Connecting” is a collaborative sculpture within the exhibit that allows participants to remember influential loved ones.

“This piece is about recognizing that we are all connected, and that our influence has no bounds,” said Taylor. Participants will be allowed to write a name of an influential person in their life on a strip of fabric and connect it to the sculpture.

The “Education in Zion” gallery is located in the center of the east side of the Joseph F. Smith Building. Enter into the first floor lobby, and take the spiral staircase down to the display space on the lower level.
