Neil York to speak at BYU forum assembly July 19

Neil L. York, professor of history at Brigham Young University, will speak Tuesday, July 19, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall for a campus forum.

The title of the forum is "We, Robots."

"What if humans themselves choose to become robots, putting aside the body as an outmoded shell—redefining what is human in the name of humanity?" asks York.

This forum will not be broadcast on television, radio, nor in the overflow areas.

York serves as chair of the History Department and was awarded the Karl G. Maeser General Education Professorship Award for his outstanding teaching accomplishments. He has also served twice as coordinator of the American Studies program.

His fields of expertise include colonial and Revolutionary U.S. history, the U.S. Constitution and the history of technology.

York attended BYU before going on the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he received his doctorate.
