Neil J. Anderson to deliver annual Barker Lecture at BYU Nov. 18

Neil J. Anderson, professor of linguistics and English language at Brigham Young University, will deliver the 20004-2005 James L. Barker Lecture at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 in 2084 Jesse Knight Humanities Building.

Anderson's lecture, "Improving Language Learning Through Metacognitively Oriented Strategies," reflects his interests in learning styles and strategies, reading and research.

In 2003, Anderson presented at the National Conference for Teachers of English in Costa Rica and at the 3rd National Conference for Teachers in Honduras. He earned his doctorate from the University of Texas-Austin in 1989 and joined the faculty at BYU in 1997.

The Barker Lectureship carries a $1,000 honorarium plus travel and research expenses. It is named in honor of James L. Barker, an internationally renowned scholar in phonetics and former chair of BYU's Language Department from 1907-1914.
