Nationally acclaimed Parsons Dance troupe to visit BYU March 24

Nationally recognized dance company Parsons Dance, renowned for its high-energy athletic style, will perform at Brigham Young University Tuesday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets range in price from $15-$27, or $8-$20 with BYU or student ID, and may be purchased online at www.byuarts.com, by phone at (801) 422-4322 or in person at the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office.

The performance will include six works, including “Caught,” artistic director David Parsons’ signature work featuring a solo dancer, strobe lighting and gravity-defying movement. A tribute to Miles Davis, “Kind of Blue,” premiered at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy in 2001 and features tunes by Davis in celebration of the 75th anniversary of his birth.

“Shining Star” features music by 1970s disco group Earth, Wind and Fire. Also included are “Swing Shift,” “Hand Dance” and “Nascimento Novo.”

Spending more than 40 weeks a year on the road, the 11 dancers of Parsons Dance maintain a repertory of more than 70 works.

David Parsons, whom New York Magazine calls “one of modern dance’s great living dance-makers,” has lead Parsons Dance since its inception in 1985.
