National Archives administrator to present Family History Fireside Nov. 14

The chief information officer at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C., will speak at a Family History Fireside Friday, Nov. 14,at 7:30 p.m. in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium on the Brigham Young University campus.

L. Reynolds Cahoon, an assistant archivist for human resources and information services at NARA, will discuss "Technology and Miracles in Genealogy." The fireside is sponsored by the BYU Center for Family History and Genealogy.

The event is free and open to the public.

Cahoon was appointed CIO at the NARA in 1996. Prior to that appointment, Cahoon was managing director of the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He has co-authored articles on planning and decision processes for information technology in archives and archival preservation of magnetic media. He has served on the Board of the Civil War Trust and as a member of the Automation Committee of the International Council of Archives.
