Music/Dance/Theatre Showcase to bring best of Broadway Feb. 18-19

Broadway is coming to Brigham Young University with the Music/Dance/Theatre program’s annual showcase featuring classic and contemporary stage songs Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre. A matinée performance will also be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m.

Tickets at $6 to $10 each are available online at byuarts.com, by phone at (801) 422-4322 or at the Fine Arts Ticket Office in C-358 Harris Fine Arts Center. All proceeds from this event support the MDT scholarship program.

Audience members can experience the music of famous Broadway scenes, with performances from Golden Age musicals such as "Camelot" and "Oklahoma!" as well as pieces from contemporary shows like "Grease," "Hairspray" and "Phantom of the Opera." Favorites such as “Anything Can Happen” ("Mary Poppins") or “I Have Dreamed” ("The King and I") will showcase some of BYU’s best musical talent.

“This is an opportunity for the MDT program at BYU to showcase the talent that we have,” said Carson Wright, stage manager for the event. “It’s a smorgasbord of fast-paced dancing, singing and acting from performers who will eventually go on to do great things in the world.”

The nationally recognized MDT program at BYU is an interdisciplinary, limited-enrollment professional training program designed to prepare young performers for careers in musical theatre. It seeks to foster musical theatre artists of the highest caliber. Students are educated in a broad-based liberal arts environment, trained to be professionally competitive and personally committed to the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
