Museum of Peoples, Cultures hosts date night Nov. 11

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures is hosting a “Culture-Me-Mine” date night Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The museum is located on 100 E. 700 N. in Provo.

The date night will be run by a group of BYU Recreation Management and Youth Leadership students.

This is the museum’s second Culture-Me-Mine featuring its newest exhibition, “Entwined: A Vibrant Heritage of the Modern Maya.” A brief tour of this exhibition, as well as the museum’s other exhibition,“Beneath Your Feet: Discovering the Archaeology of Utah Valley,” will start off the night.  Following the tours will be a game of “Couples Feud” and a scavenger hunt. Couples will then have the opportunity to paint gourds which they will keep.  Light refreshments will be provided.

 Tickets for “Culture-Me-Mine” are $10 a couple and will be available for purchase at the WSC information desk beginning Monday, Nov. 7.  For more information, visit mpc.byu.edu, or contact the museum at 801.422.0020 or mpc@byu.edu

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.

BYU team helps create diagnostic tool that achieves accuracy of PCR tests with faster, simpler nanopore system

A new diagnostic tool developed by Brigham Young University and UC Santa Cruz researchers can test for SARS-CoV-2 and Zika virus with the same or better accuracy as high-precision PCR tests in a matter of hours.
