Museum of Europe in Brussels subject of April 2 BYU lecture

Krzysztof Pomian, historian and scientific director of the Museum of Europe in Brussels, will conclude the European Lecture Series at Brigham Young University with a presentation on the “Museum of Europe” on Wednesday, April 2, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Appointed the scientific director of the museum in2001, Pomian was the main force behind designing the collection and conceptualizing the historical view of Europe that it projects.

He is the author of several books on museums, collecting, relics, Europe, philosophy and historiography. He has been awarded several prestigious prizes, honorary doctorates and guest lectureships. Currently, he is an honorary director of research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and a professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland.

He attended the University of Warsaw, where he received a doctorate. For political reasons, he immigrated to France in 1973, where he spent most of his career. Pomian has also taught at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Socials, at the Ecole du Louvre and at the University of Geneva.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
