Missionary work in the Pacific topic of BYU Global Focus lecture Feb. 16

Replaces lecture by Reed Slack

Fred E. Woods, an associate professor of Church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University, will present "The Mormon Voyage of the Whale Ship Timoleon: Launching Latter-day Saint Missionary Work in the Pacific" at the Global Focus Series on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus.

Woods' address replaces a previously scheduled lecture by Reed D. Slack.

His expertise is Mormon migration. He has authored several books and many articles and is the editor and compiler of the Mormon Immigration Index, which is currently being used by Family History Centers throughout the world.

In 2002, he received the Richard L. Anderson Distinguished Research Award from BYU Religious Education.

The executive director of the Mormon Historic Sites Foundation, he received B.S. and M.S. degrees from BYU and a Ph.D. in Middle East studies from the University of Utah.
