Media alert: BYU University Police Assist Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run

Members of the Brigham Young University Police force will be featured during the final legs of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for this year's Special Olympics, to be celebrated this weekend (June 6-7) at the Track and Field Complex south of LaVell Edwards Stadium.

University police officers will begin the Utah County run at 11 a.m. on Thursday (June 5) in north Springville by the access to I-15 at the city maintenance yards. The run will continue north on Highway 89 past the Provo Cemetery on to 900 East in Provo. The officers will move to 900 North and on to East Campus Drive past the Wilkinson Student Center to the Bell Tower on the southwest corner of the Marriott Center. The officers will travel east past the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum and culminate their stage of the run at the Oak Hills chapel by Deseret Towers on 900 East.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an annual fund-raising event sponsored by police agencies nationwide for the Special Olympics, said Lt. Greg Barber of BYU University Police.
