McKay School of Education at BYU to offer new doctoral program

In Educational Inquiry, Measurement and Evaluation (EIME)

The David O. McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University will initiate a newly designed doctoral degree program beginning fall semester 2008 titled Educational Inquiry, Measurement and Evaluation (EIME).

To create this doctoral degree, administrators merged some of the concepts from two former doctoral programs into one interdepartmental program focused on educational inquiry. "This refocus ensures that McKay School graduates are prepared to make significant contributions to solving persistent and challenging educational issues faced by the state, nation and world," said program coordinator Richard Sudweeks of the instructional psychology faculty.

Through their coursework, students will develop a conceptual understanding of disciplined inquiry. In addition, an EIME degree will provide students with a balance between depth and breadth and between theory and practice , according to Sudweeks.

Because it is interdepartmental, the McKay School Dean's Office will directly administer the EIME doctorate.

Those interested in participating in the September 2008 cohort must submit application materials by May 30. For application forms and information, visit www.byu.edu/gradstudies or contact Richard Sudweeks at (801) 422-7078.
