Mary Anne Prater to present BYU devotional address June 10

Mary Anne Prater, chair of the Department of Counseling Psychology and Special Education, will speak on using spiritual maps to navigate through life during a Brigham Young University devotional on Tuesday, June 10, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Prater’s research centers on special education teacher preparation, children’s literature, cultural diversity and effective instructional strategies for students with mild to moderate disabilities. She has authored or co-authored four books and many instructional materials, journal articles and book chapters.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in learning disabilities from the University of Utah. She earned her doctorate in special education from Utah State University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the University of Kentucky. She came to BYU from the University of Hawaii in 2003.

Her awards and recognitions include several appearances on Marquis “Who’s Who in America,” a BYU David O. McKay Fellowship and more than a dozen grants from the Utah State Office of Education and the U.S. Department of Education.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
