Martin Fujiki appointed as chair of Communication Disorders Department

Professor and researcher Martin Fujiki is replacing Christopher Dromey as the chair of the Department of Communication Disorders in the McKay School of Education.

"It was my pleasure to announce Martin Fujiki as the new chair," said Mary Anne Prater, dean of the McKay School. "Martin is a very accomplished teacher and researcher who has devoted a significant part of his professional life to the department, the School of Education and BYU."

Fujiki received his education at the University of Utah. He worked at the University of Nevada---Reno and then the University of Kansas prior to coming to BYU in 1991.

"I think of Martin as a gentle giant. He is kind and gentle in demeanor, but a strong and highly respected leader," Prater said. "The department will continue to thrive with Martin at the helm."

As department chair, Fujiki will oversee the day-to-day operations as well as the long-term efforts and achievements of the department. He'll continue conducting research in his specialty, the social competence of children with language difficulties.

"I'm looking forward to helping provide exceptional programs for our students as well as supporting the faculty and staff as department chair," Fujiki said. "The former chair, Christopher Dromey, did an excellent job so I have some big shoes to fill."
