Marriott School Business Plan Competition worth more than $100,000

Winners to be announced at 2 p.m. Friday

More than $100,000 in cash and business services is up for grabs Friday, April 3, as judges pick the most promising new enterprises at the 2009 Brigham Young University’s 2009 Business Plan Competition. The final event will take place at 2 p.m. in 140 Joseph Smith Building. One of three final teams will walk away with the grand prize, valued at $50,000.

Judges will award second- and third-place teams $30,000 and $20,000 in cash and in-kind services. Additional cash prizes will be given to semi-finalists and honorable mentions. Awards will also be given for global, home-based and e-business categories.

This year’s judges consist of venture capitalists, private equity professionals, angel investors, CEOs and other entrepreneurs. The judges will whittle more than 45 business plan entries to three by examining each team’s understanding of the market, experience, dedication and detailed evidence of potential success.

The competition was founded in 1993 by BYU’s Center for Entrepreneurship and is run by more than two dozen MBA students and a faculty adviser. The annual event is recognized as one of the top-tier business plan competitions in the nation in terms of prizes and participation.

Successes from past Business Plan Competitions include Klymit, Calle, 1-800-CONTACTS, uSight, Property Solutions and Alianza.
