Marilyn Arnold receives Utah Women's Achievement Award

Marilyn Arnold, professor emeritus of English at Brigham Young University, recently received the 2003 Utah Women's Achievement Award presented by the Governor's Commission for Women and Families.

The BYU Women's Research Institute nominated Arnold for her contributions to academia, students and the community.

While at BYU, Arnold was dean of Graduate Studies, director of the Center for the Study of Christian Values in Literature and editor of the journal "Literature and Belief."

Arnold was also appointed to an administrative post as an assistant to former BYU President Dallin H. Oaks. In 1983, Arnold was named English Professor of the Year.

She recently co-edited "A Chorus for Peace: A Global Anthology of Poetry by Women," which contains poems by women who are united worldwide in their desire for peace.

Some of her other publications include "Pure Love: Readings on Sixteen Enduring Virtues" and "Sweet is the Work: Reflections on the Book of Mormon-Its Narrative, Teachings, and People." She has also written a collection of fictional works.
