Love Never Fails: BYU Conference Examines LDS Affinity towards First Corinthians

New Testament Commentary Conference

  • Date: Friday, July 31
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center, BYU

The First Epistle of Corinthians in the New Testament has long held a prominent place in LDS thought, culture, and practice. It is the source of the Relief Society motto, "Charity Never Faileth," and Paul's discourse on the gifts of the spirit, which stands behind the seventh Article of Faith.

This year's BYU New Testament Commentary Conference will focus on that affinity with presentations by religious scholars. The conference will be held on Friday, July 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center at BYU. This conference is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Featured speakers include: Craig Blomberg, distinguished professor of New Testament at the Denver Seminary and co-author of How Wide the Divide? A Mormon and an Evangelical in Conversation; Kevin Barney, a Chicago-based public finance lawyer and a scholar of Mormon history and scripture; and Julie Smith, who holds a master's degree in biblical studies from the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley and is the author of several published works.

Everyone who attends the conference will receive a free copy of newest e-book in the New Testament Commentary Series: Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians, by Richard D. Draper and Michael D. Rhodes.
