Literacy and gender topic for BYU lecture Sept. 22

An international program officer for World Education will present a lecture, "Literacy, Gender, and Education: Crossing Borders and Respecting Boundaries," on Friday, Sept. 22 at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building at Brigham Young University.

BYU graduate Tiffany Zenith Ivins has focused her research on female literacy programs in Pakistan. Her research has covered gender, conflict resolution and participatory education.

She has consulted for literacy programs in South Africa, Sudan, Kenya, Nepal, China and the Philippines, and believes her BYU field studies in Africa and Asia provided a springboard for her international career in literacy and health.

Ivins received a master's degree in international and comparative education from the University of Oxford and is a doctoral candidate at Utah State University.
